Forum “Strengthening career guidance development in Armenia, Learning from European policies and practices”

On 11th of October 2016, “Global Developments” Fund with the financial support of the European Training Foundation (ETF) and with the close collaboration of the Methodological Centre for Professional Orientation (MCPO) organised the event “Strengthening career guidance development in Armenia, Learning from European policies and practices”. This event took place at the “Elite Plaza” Business Centre, “Mantashev” Hall.

The event in Yerevan gathered around 60 participants, in particular policy makers, social partners, career guidance practitioners and representatives from general education, VET and employment institutions in order to discuss the achievements and challenges of career guidance in Armenia and to develop ideas for future actions.

Special attention was paid to the issue of effective co-operation and co-ordination mechanism in career guidance between the sectors of education, VET and employment.

During the event Ms Haykuhi Gevorgyan, Director of Methodological Centre for Professional Orientation presented state of play of career guidance services and co-operation mechanisms in Armenia.

Dr Susanne Kraatz from European Parliament, Directorate for Economic and Scientific Policies, Seconded National Expert made key note speech on “European policies for lifelong guidance to fight early school leaving and unemployment – and the challenge of co-operation and co-ordination of guidance services”.

Dr Raimo Vuorinen from Finland and Dr Peter Härtel from Austria presented National Forums for Career Guidance – European examples of effective co-operation and co-ordination mechanisms in career guidance .

Career Consultants from different Regional State Colleges were glad to present their success stories and lessons learnt.

After the lunch 3 groups were established including participants from general education, VET and employment services. The following topics were discussed among the groups and presented for the participants:

-    What issues do you see in the implementation of efficient career guidance services in your area of work (at national and local level)?

-    What kind of mechanism do you see as solution to the issues raised?

The group works were facilitated by EU experts and MCPO staff
